IT STARTED WITH A SUDOKU GRID
1 FAILED PUZZLE SPARKED 365 PAINTINGS
This project began on a family holiday last year.
I packed a small sketchbook, determined to get back into drawing, and quickly realised my observation skills had gone a little rusty. Instead of landscapes, I found myself sketching floor tiles and repeating patterns.
Then I spotted a Sudoku sheet at the hotel reception. I wasn’t very good at solving it. So I started colouring the grid instead.
That small, slightly rebellious choice became the start of 365: A Year in Colour.
For every day of the year, I am creating one small abstract painting, each anchored to a specific date and guided by the logic of a Sudoku puzzle.
What started as a playful idea has become a serious project. It’s more than a series of paintings; it’s a way to mark time.
Each piece belongs to a specific day. A birthday. An anniversary. An ordinary Tuesday.
