Gateways to Now (PG7/PB15:3 – PB15:3/PG7) 3 of 3

Gateways to Now is a series of six original paintings — three in one colour variation, and three in another. Each set forms a limited edition of three identical paintings, created using the same composition and carefully recorded colour “recipes.”

Working this way allows me to explore repetition and editioning in painting — something more often seen in printmaking or photography. It shifts the focus from a single ‘original’ to the idea of process, systems, and variation.

The series was first shown at my MA exhibition, Wonder, at PS1. I installed the works in vertical pairs to resemble doorways, creating an immersive experience and highlighting the temporary, site-specific nature of exhibitions. 

After the show, the paintings were separated and now exist as individual works.

This series is currently available at Thelma Hulbert Gallery as part of the THG Open 2025 exhibition, running from 12 July to 23 August.

It’s a great opportunity to see one of these paintings in person alongside a wide range of contemporary art from the South West.
